On average, these are the costs you’ll have to pay for driving lessons.
- Standard learner lesson price is £30 per hour but that can be discounted for block bookings.
- It takes, on average, 45 lessons to pass the driving test.
- By booking lessons in advance, you can save £2 an hour or £90 in total.
- Tests cost £31 for theory and £62 (Monday to Friday) / £75 (evenings and Saturdays) for the practical.
Reducing the cost
First, be absolutely sure you get the best tuition available with a fully qualified instructor. You could learn more quickly, and improve your chances of bringing the cost down.
Block book your lessons in advance to take advantage of some great discounts. You’ll get a full refund if you don’t need to use them all.
Take two-hour lessons – they could help you learn more quickly.
Can I get cheaper lessons?
Some driving schools give cheap driving lessons in Wigan because they save money by using cheaper or older cars.

Some driving schools give cheap driving lessons in Wigan because they use part of your lesson to pick-up or drop off the next pupil, a practice known as ‘piggy backing’. We will not do this. We give 1:1 tuition for the full duration of your lesson.
Think of the Fairy Liquid principle, it is more expensive to buy than other washing-up liquids but because you use less, it may well work out cheaper in the end.
Think also what has happened recently. Would you buy Tesco Value Burgers just because they are cheap? Probably not! Then why would you want to buy cheap driving lessons?
